This is one of the three main destinations in desert circuit and a royal fortified city with a timeless appeal of the royal aura. Bikaner was founded in 1488 by Rao Bhikaji.

Jaipur Hawa Mahal

The city is encircled by high fortifications comprising a 7 km long wall which bounds the old city and has 5 entrances. All these were established in the 18th century. Bikaner, the magnificent city of Rajasthan is an interesting site of traditional Rajasthani attractions, well-fed camels and citadels. This camel country is also famous for its exotic camel safaris, its gorgeous forts and the worship of thousands of holy rats at Mata Kali temple.

Bikaner is lying in the north of the desert state, the city is dotted with sand dunes. Bikaner has one of the largest Camel research and breeding farm in the world. The ship of the desert is a part of life here. Bikaner used to be situated directly on the ancient caravan routes between Africa and West Asia. The city has broadened it economical horizons in various industrial areas with global presence. Bikaner wool, Gypsum, Plaster of Paris and Bentonite are few minerals found here. Bikaner is a trade centre for wool, hides, building stone, salt, blankets and grain.

Bikaneri woolen shawls, blankets, carpets. The city has electrical and mechanical engineering works, railway workshops, and factories that manufacture glass, pottery, felts, chemicals, shoes, and cigarettes.

The airport at Jodhpur happens to be the nearest airport to Bikaner and is situated at a distance of 235 kms from where you can receive direct flights from cities like Delhi, Mumabi, Jaipur and Udaipur.

Bikaner is connected by direct rail connections to cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Calcutta, Jodhpur and Jaipur. The Chetak Express and the Bikaner Express are important trains that connect Delhi and Bikaner. Buses and private taxis ply regularly to and fro from Bikaner to Delhi, Jaipur and other nearby major cities of India.
